Hi, I’m Taylor! I’m the owner, dyer, and designer here at Hubris Hearthcraft. I’m an avid knitter with a passion for garments, non-superwash wool, and all things handspun. I can often be found walking or hiking with a project in hand. I dye yarn and write patterns that lend themselves to comfortable, beautiful, long-lasting pieces and are a joy to make and to wear for everybody. The name “Hubris Hearthcraft” comes from a phrase often used in my house - “I seem to once again be a victim of my own hubris”. I draw my inspiration from the world around me, especially the trees and gardens here in Portland, as well as from my favorite novels, plays, and musicals, ancient history, and my pets - a 16 year old cat named Max and my service dog and giant baby, Artemis.
With my work, I want to break down the imagined social division between fashion and self and celebrate the pure life that comes from the chaos of inspiration.

I recognize that hand-dyed yarn can often be out-of-budget for many crafters - I know that I couldn’t afford it for a long time, and that it’s such a privilege that I have so much access to it now through my business and through my other job at my local yarn store. Working with high-quality materials adds so much joy to the making process and leads to truly elevated final results.
